Magnetic tiles are a fun and engaging way for students to explore early geometry concepts. Students can use their imagination to build multiple shapes built on specific attributes.

Science becomes more engaging when students experience hands on learning. The Force and Motion Lab, Force and Motion Activity Tub, as well as the Spinning Top STEM Challenge will provide multiple opportunities for students to collaborate and experience this important concept.

With Lakeshore's tabletop storyboard and storytelling set, students will enjoy retelling some of their favorite stories. This will help build students' communication skills and improve reading comprehension.

Raz-Kids is an award-winning resource that provides a library of differentiated books at 29 levels of difficulty students can use to practice reading in school, at home, or on the go. Digital and mobile access means that students get the personalized reading practice they need anytime, anywhere. As the teacher, I can quickly manage and track students' reading progress in a matter of minutes. Raz-Kids will provide meaningful online reading practice on computers and mobile devices with hundreds of leveled books and corresponding quizzes offered at 29 levels of reading difficulty. Raz-Kids provides students with an engaging and meaningful reading program that they will find fun, too.

This grant would fund a year-long subscription to Scholastic News for my first grade class. This subscription will provide each student with a weekly Scholastic News magazine containing non-fiction texts about seasonal, science and STEM, and current events. Not only will this subscription provide a resource for both science and reading instruction, but each issue will be sent home with students to provide additional reading materials for students and families. Research has proven that reading at home with children is a vital practice to ensure literacy success for children!

With this giant magnetic visual models chart students will be able to visualize and practice our problem solving strategies!

Students will enjoy building fluency while reading classic nursery rhymes with visual cues to solve tricky words.

Each title will support lessons that teachers are currently using in our first grade classrooms. Providing each individual classroom with its own set of titles will give teachers the opportunity to put these books in the hands of students more often. Also it will give teachers the opportunity to use the books as mentor books which means she can refer back to them and reread for teaching points across the curriculum. Funding this grant will add richness to an already rock solid literacy curriculum. First grade students for years to come will benefit from these amazing books.

This grant will bring the farm to the classroom with the help of The Garden Hen and Chicken Mike. It all starts when Chicken Mike arrives in our classroom with an incubator full of growing chicken eggs. He will spend time with my students helping them understand the journey through the life cycle of a chicken. Students will then spend time researching the growing eggs and recording observations. Half way through the process, Chicken Mike will return with his sidekick, Pinecone, to give students the opportunity to observe a grown hen as well as bend the ear of our poultry expert. Students will have the chance to clarify their learning and ask additional questions. Finally, the big day will come and our class will be able to observe these hard working creatures come into the world. They will then spend time researching how to care for baby chicks and will spend the next week or so caring for these tiny creatures. At the end of the project, Chicken Mike will come and take our new friends to their new homes.
